Airport Commission

Members of the Baxter County Airport Commission, also known as the Baxter Regional Airport Authority, are appointed by the Baxter County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court. Members are appointed for seven year terms and are responsible for over-seeing all maintenance operations of the county-owned Ozark Regional Airport.
The Airport covers more than 338 acres near the Baxter County Industrial Park on Highway 126 in Midway, just six miles northwest of Mountain Home. The airport consists of a 6,800-square-foot terminal building, a 5,000-foot runway and taxi, and some 55 based aircraft, including helicopters and jets, and 29 hangers. The airport is in the process of expanding, with plans to include construction of a new 5,500-foot cross-winds runway and new, enclosed hangers. The airport uses a Precision Approach Path Indicator runway lighting system.
The airport does not presently have commercial airline service to and from Mountain Home but hopes to re-establish commuter airline service in the near future.

Election Commission

The Board of Election Commissioners for Baxter County is a separate and independent unit of government that has the responsibility of conduction and administrating elections within Baxter County, Arkansas. Elections are administered by, and under the jurisdiction of, the Baxter County Board of Election Commissioners in conjunction with State Election Laws, State and Local Election authorities. The members of the election board were recommended by their party and appointed by the State Election Commission for these paid positions.  In 2000 the Election Commission was charged with the redrawing of quorum court districts in order to reflect changes in population as reflected in the 2000 census. Each district population must be within five percent of each other. There are eleven districts in Baxter County. Click on the county

In Arkansas, State Law requires on Election Day polls remain open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. No early voting on election day.  Baxter County residents can register to vote in one of three ways: call the Clerk's office and they will mail you a form to fill out, register to vote when you renew your driver's license or vehicle tags at the State Revenue Office, or you may register at the Baxter County Library. Tax Equalization Board

Members of the three member Tax Equalization Board are appointed by the County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court for three year terms. The board meets yearly, has the responsibility for all real and personal property taxing matters and provides property owners the opportunity to be heard. The board hears complaints from taxpayers regarding taxes and is entrusted to examine property tax records and to make any needed adjustments. County taxpayers can appeal the board's decisions to the County Court.

Industrial Park Board

Members of the county Industrial Park Board are appointed by the County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court for 5 year terms. The board meets as needed and is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Baxter County Industrial Park. The board handles the selling of industrial park land, looking for new park land and attracting industry to the park.

Law Library Board

Members of the County Law Library Board are appointed by the County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court for 5 year terms. The board, made up of lawyers, is responsible for maintaining the County's Law Library. Arkansas law provides that the County maintain this library for public access. Library Board

Members of the Library Board are appointed by the County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court for five year terms. The board is responsible for overseeing the County-owned library. Baxter County Library receives some 89% of its operating revenue from a one-mill county property tax and additional funding from the County general fund and from the state. The board also is responsible for hiring the County Librarian. Librarian Gwen Khayat said the library offers everything patrons need, from children's books, large print books, classic literature and reference material to free public Internet access.

Planning Board

Members of the seven member County Planning Board are appointed by the County Judge and confirmed by the Quorum Court for 4 year terms. Baxter County is one of the few counties in the state that has a Planning Board. Board Members are responsible for approving subdivisions and overseeing planning for the future growth of the County. Land Use Advisory Board

The Land Use Advisory Board is a five member board which provides a planning framework for Baxter County. The members serve three year tems and meets as needed. Contact the Baxter County Judge's Office for names and contact information on board members.

Waterworks Facilities Board

Members of the county Waterworks Facilities Board are elected by the board for 5 year terms and meet as needed. The five-member board is responsible for the development of water and sewer throughout the County. In 2001, a County-wide, water and wastewater Master Plan was completed, making Baxter County one of the few counties in the state with such a plan.  Contact the Baxter County Judge's Office for names and contact information on Commissioners.

Veterans Advisory Board

Members of the Veterans Advisory Board are appointed by the County Judge for terms of one, two and three years. The board meets as needed and serves only in an advisory position. The five-member board represents different branches of the United States military and is responsible for advising the County Judge of the needs and concerns of local veterans. Animal Control Advisory Board

The purpose of the advisory board is to look into alternative and more cost effective methods of providing animal control services and to gather public input on what additional services might be needed to better serve the county.
